Karachi, Pakistan is the birthplace of the designer Umair Khan. Steeped in the rich culture of his homeland, his mother's graceful taste, and his father's ingenuity - Umair Khan was born to design. Umair is heavily-influenced by the art and fashion of Europe. He has traveled the world, finding inspiration in nature, fine fabrics, high fashion, and the richness that is couture. He has started in fashion industry as a model for local Houston designers as well as Liz Claiborne, Nautica, Jones New York and countless others. While earning his degree in Fashion Design and Merchandising, he was called to New York. In the ever-changing fashion mecca, Umair visited for inspiration at Cesar Gallindo and fashion house of Maggie Norris. Umair returned to Houston and graduated from Houston Community College. More importantly, he had a vision of seeing his dream as a respected designer manifest. His work was showcased in the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. And that, was just the beginning. As a designer, Umair's vision is to call forth inner beauty and confidence. His garments are a testimony to his vision. They require imagination and exude truth and creativity. Couture is where his passion lies. Couture requires a keen sense of detail and a patient hand made for creative expression. He understands the subtleties of a woman’s body. He tries to reveal their flawless curves by donning them in the flowing silhouettes of his textured dresses. Umair Khan commands every stitch of fabric he touches. Umair lives and designs in Houston, TX with his daughter Manha by his side. Every design he creates is a gift he calls forth. He is presently designing for other projects and working on his own line Meru Merus.
